Tyrann Mathieu

Posted: October 26, 2012 in Uncategorized

He was the most dominant player in college football, and he didn’t even play Quarterback. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2011 (award for best player). No team wanted to play Louisiana State University (LSU) because of Tyrann Mathieu’s skills. Everything was going great for him and his team… Until he violated the LSU substance abuse policy… Again. After so many chances and the opportunity to be the best player and lead your team to a championship, he wasted it all just for using drugs.

Before the 2012 season started, LSU dismissed Tyrann Mathieu from the team for all the repeated violations he made. He was not kicked out of the university and the coach was going to let him back on the team the following season. All he had to do was control his substance abuse problem and he could have the life that many people dream of everyday. He enrolled in the fall semester and was seeking drug treatment so he could be back on the team the following year.

Fast forward to October 25, 2012. Tyrann Mathieu and three former LSU players were arrested for simple possession of marijuana. This little mistake of his might have sealed his fate with the team and will cost him millions of dollars he could have had in the NFL.

Colombia National Soccer Team

Posted: October 24, 2012 in Uncategorized

The last time Colombia qualified for the World Cup was 1998, 14 years ago! With the team receiving so much hype and never living up to it, fans have came grown accustomed of them losing. But that was then… this is now

With just a year and a few months away from the world cup, the South American team everyone is talking about is not named Argentina or Brazil, it is Colombia. Tied for second in the standings to qualify for the World Cup (one point behind Argentina), Colombia is making their fans go from a loser mentality to a winner’s mentality. With star players such as Radamel Falcao (starting forward) and captain Mario Yepes (defensive backfield), Colombia is not only beating other teams, they are annihilating them. With wins against Uruguay 4-0 and Chile 3-1, this team is reminding everyone that Colombia can be a force to be dealt with.

NFL’s surprise team

Posted: October 23, 2012 in Uncategorized

Every year in the NFL there is a team that surprises everyone and does a lot greater than expected. Last year it was the San Francisco 49ers, this year it will be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished their 2011 season 4-12 (four wins, 12 losses). They started 4-2 and lost 10 straight. They fired their head coach Raheem Morris and hired Rutgers coach Greg Schiano. They had the most salary cap money to use on free agents and they did not disappoint when they signed wide receiver (WR) Vincent Jackson, offensive guard (OG) Carl Nicks, and cornerback (CB) Eric Wright. They did not finish improving their team there because with the NFL Draft they selected seven players, two of which were first round picks, safety Mark Barron and running back Doug Martin.

With the talent added through free agency and the NFL Draft and still having Josh Freeman as their Quarterback, the season looks promising for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Crossfit princple is strength and training program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations unit, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide (What is crossfit, 2012). Their main purpose is to make you the perfect athlete, not make you great in one general physical skill like strength or conditioning, but make you good in each of the ten general physical skills there are (cardiovascular/respiratory, endurance, stamina, strength, flexibly, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy). The great thing about Crossfit is it is designed for universal scalability making it perfect for anyone from beginner to expert. Since the focus of Crossfit is to make athletes good at every aspect of exercise, people achieve outstanding improvements in body composition, health makers such as blood pressure and cholesterol, and physical performance in sport and in daily life. Crossfit also makes exercising fun and competitive as you exercise with other people so you have someone always pushing you to finish and make you a better athlete. Most of the exercises done take you to the point you either want to quit or you think you can’t, but  when you finish that WOD (workout of the day), you feel great physically but also mentally knowing if you can do this exercise, you can take anything thrown at you.

Crossfit was founded by former gymnast Greg Classman, and the first affiliated Crossfit gym opened in Santa Cruz, California in 1995 (Brief History of Crossfit, 2012).  The popularity of Crossfit has taken off recent years, from only having 18 affiliated Crossfit gyms in 2005 to over 3,400 in 2012. Some reasons for the big rise in popularity is its something new for people to try out and really enjoy, it makes people more physically and mentally strong, and probably the biggest reason is it inspires people to think and dream of what we are capable of when pushed, just like sports or the olympics. Crossfit has gotten so popular that they have created the “Crossfit Games” which is an event that find who is the most fitted person on earth. Only starting in the year 2007, Crossfit games has gotten so big and popular, it embarked a partnership with ESPN to spread the sport of fitness to a wider audience than ever before.

Lebron James Decision

Posted: October 16, 2012 in Uncategorized

Enter Lebron James, a phenom of a basketball player since his junior year in High School (yes, High School) that was picked first overall in the NBA Draft by his hometown state Cleveland. He would play seven amazing seasons, win two MVP (Most Valuable Player) award’s and took his hometown team to the NBA Finals (they lost). Now with his contract expired, Lebron has to make a difficult decision to either stay in his hometown and be a local hero forever and win more money than anyone can imagine, or explore free agency and see what team suits him best to play his next six to seven years and most important, to win a championship.

Four teams were in the running for his services: The Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, New Jersey Nets, and the Miami Heat. Lebron James was ready to make his decision, the way he made the decision however, will be in media history forever. The decision was going to be broadcast live on Television all over the country. Never has a player in history made a decision to join a team on live television…. He did not know what was coming next.

Jim Gray: Lebron, everyone wants to know, what is your decision?

Lebron James:  In this fall, this is very tough, in this fall I’m going to take my talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat.

Lebron James now joining Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh to form the “Big three” promised championships for Miami. Everything was going to plan… right? What Lebron forgot to think about is what he did to the state of Cleveland, from being the number one fan favorite in the state to now the most hated man in the state. Shortly after the decision was made, reactions of residents in Cleveland were being filmed and there were people crying and so depressed about his decision, they were also enraged and started to take their frustration on the streets on Cleveland. His decision not only impacted Cleveland negatively, but the whole country started to hate Lebron because they think he took the easy way out by joining two great players to win a championship. From being the number one fan favorite in Cleveland and being loved around the country, to now being the number one enemy and being hated by all NBA cities, the decision changed the whole NBA landscape forever.
